Sino-German cooperation in the field of emergency medicine – three humedica doctors involved – Prof. Dr. Domres takes on association’s presidency
Member of the humedica Board Georg Müller (Solms near Wetzlar) was one of eight delegates, who, a few days ago, returned from consultations in the Chinese megacity Wuhan at Yangtze Kiang River in the Province of Hubei (Central China).

Together with their colleagues in China, the German doctors founded the Sino-German Association for Emergency and Rescue Medicine, and they appointed emergency doctor Prof. Dr. Dr. Bernd Domres from Tübingen their president. As a member of the humedica doctor team, Prof. Domres has been supporting our medical disaster relief projects for many years.
The same can be said of Dr. Philipp Fischer (Bonn), who has taken part in several missions wearing our red humedica vest lately, and who also was one of the members of the German delegation to China.
Much stronger and older is the connection our Member of the Board Georg Müller has to humedica. Not only did the 60-year old man from Middle Hesse have the initial idea to send out the medical teams, which have in the meantime gained global appreciation, but he also took part in missions on a regular basis in particular in the early years of our work.
Thanks to a possible cooperation with the newly founded Sino-German Association for Emergency and Rescue Medicine, new possibilities open up for humedica relating to relief aid in China in potential emergency situations. During the consultations, also a large-scale emergency medicine practice has been planned to be held in Turkey next year. During this practice, Turkish, Chinese and German doctors will practise cooperation in emergency missions after natural disasters.
The festive signing of the association’s founding contract took place at the guest house of the former Chinese leader Mao Tse-tung, where he had received numerous statesmen during his reign.
Prior to this event, the delegation had met with their Chinese colleagues at the Tongji Hospital in Wuhan. With 4,000 beds, this establishment is one of the largest hospitals in the world. According to Georg Müller, the hospital disposes of 600 beds in the accident surgery ward alone.
The hospital’s history can be traced back to the German marine physician Erich Paulun (1862-1909), who at first built a hospital in Shanghai, and later built the “German Medical School for the Chinese in Shanghai”, which today is known as the Tongji University.
