Bürgerfest Neugablonz – an eventful day for young and old

Last Sunday, on June 26, 2011, the ninth Bürgerfest (city festival) of Neugablonz with its numerous highlights attracted a large number of guests to the festival location in the centre of the borough of the town of Kaufbeuren. In accordance with the motto of the humedica activities, the sun was shining and smiling with the young and older guests and it provided an even more authentic backdrop to the “Africa Day”.

By means of a photo exhibition about the projects in Benin and Niger those interested were given a deeper insight into what has been achieved so far thanks to the generous support of all our donors. In Niger in particular sustainable projects have been developed based on an original disaster relief mission in 2008.

Local women who receive adequate treatment during pregnancy and birthing assistance at the humedica hospital in the Nigerien city of Kollo refer to the establishment as a “Star in the Desert”. And also the project for fighting undernutrition, which was initiated last year, is proof of the essential work humedica is doing in Niger.

The Ambassador of Benin, Isidore Bio, had travelled to Kaufbeuren only to attend this special day and together with Lord Mayor Stefan Bosse he gave the official kick-off to the event. On behalf of those affected he also expressed his gratitude for the help Benin received last year, when the country was hit by floods and a cholera epidemic.

Besides this agenda for adults, of course we also offered a lot of activities for children. Painted like butterflies, tigers or flower fields, they were welcome to serve themselves delicious sweets and cakes at the humedica cake stand. Several voluntary assistants had busied themselves with preparing the cakes and now sold them for little money. The takings will be given to the humedica projects in Africa.

“For all those who’ve always aimed high” – this was the motto of the very popular game of bottle crate climbing. Also humedica employee Clemens Matern, who participated in the Bürgerfest Neugablonz for the first time this year and secured the little girls and boys during their climb, was impressed: “It was a great day: the guests met and enjoyed the festival together, the children had immense fun and it was fantastic to do the crate climbing with them.”

At this point the entire humedica team would once more like to express their special thanks for this eventful and successful day to all the honorary assistants who essentially contributed to all these activities being a success.
